Monthly Menus
Each month, new recipes are chosen for the kids to try in the kitchen. The recipes have to be made and cooked within an hour, and the goal is to choose a healthy variety of foods. Different cooking utensils and techniques may be brought into the recipes to teach new skills. Normally, the four recipes included a main dish with protein, a vegetable, a bread, and a dessert. Also, a snack recipe is always included that the children got to make and eat during the program. The snack is something they can fix themselves at home to foster independence in the kitchen.
The food the youth make is either picked up or delivered to a family or individual in need. Seniors in the community often came to pick up the food, but we also gave it to families with children sometimes.
