What is Cooking with Care?Cooking with Care is a 4-H program designed to help youth learn skills in the kitchen. Every month, 5th graders and middle schoolers head over to the Oconee County Extension office for a lesson about a kitchen skill or something else related to cooking. They then get hands-on experience with cooking and dish up a healthy meal for a family or individual in need! Community volunteers, Extension staff, and senior 4-Hers teach the lesson and help the youth with the cooking.

Who am I?Hi! My name is Laura Shipman. I am a student at the University of Georgia, majoring in Human Development and Family Science. I am currently taking an internship class and have been working with Leigh Anne Aaron, the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent in Oconee and Morgan counties. Cooking with Care has been my internship project for this semester. I hope you enjoy learning about the program and seeing my work!

I could not have put on the program without your continued support and willingness to cook with the kids!
The Cooking with Care Program covers the Extension spectrum:
- Identifying audience: middle school students, elementary school students
- Researching information: cooking/kitchen skill and healthy recipes
- Planning program: educational piece, cooking part, grocery shopping, setting up kitchen
- Delivering program: teaching 2 classes a month to youth
- Evaluation: collecting measurable information at the end
